Oh Ichibban. You're one of my favorites. It's like a hometown Habatchi. Nothing super razzle dazzle about this place, not going to like. But it's quant. The staff is super friendly, and Asian. Haha. There are pictures of everyone who had celebrated a birthday on the wall. Prices aren't that bad, and you certainly get a deal during lunch hours. You get mints after the meal. The cooks are friendly. They pick up on your energy. I love this place. It's my go to Habatchi.

This place is just ok. Not stellar and not horrible. The ingredients are good but the prices are a little expensive for what you get. If in the area you can try but I wouldn't go out of my way for this.

I'd like to give them 2.5 stars, but that's not a possibility, so with that, my rating for them actually stands between 2 and 3 stars. I should probably give them a 2, but I'm feeling generous today. The sushi was good, but very small portion. The portions are actually skimpy, in my opinion. Definitely not worth what you are paying. Slightly inattentive service- they seemed distracted, but polite. A bit overpriced. Good teas.

I've actually been avoiding this place for years since they took over the former location of the only golf shop in Grand Blanc. Not their fault I know, but still. Anyway after numerous pre-movie advertisements at the Trillium, the bride and I decided to try this for something different on our anniversary this year (don't laugh, we usually eat at the coney). To begin with, I guess I was a little bit surprised at how big it isn't. Not that size matters, but it looks like a much larger place from the outside. We sat on the Sushi side of the restaurant and received prompt and consistent service. We ordered some avocado rolls to start and they were quite good and fresh. No complaints. Followed this up with Harumaki, Beef Neqimaki, and Nabeyaki Udon which came with tempura shrimp, thus completing the seafood chicken and beef trifecta and no doubt causing some of the purists to look upon us as heathens. The bride had the Shrimp Tempura and our son had the Hibachi Chicken and everyone left full and happy. Had no complaints with the service, temperature of the food, or anything excepting the fact that the seating in the sushi area is probably a bit tight during busy times (which this was not).

I must be in a slump because this was a let down as well. Ive never been here before so I decided to give it a try. I went for a Sunday lunch and the place was pretty empty. The initial service was fair. On the bright side they did keep my diet coke refilled. I had a bit of an uneasy feeling as I sat there. The place wasn't dirty but it was close to being dirty. The food was ok. Lots of teriyaki mixed into theory dishes. All and all not the best Japanese Steakhouse that Ive been to. If you're a regular in Genesee County I would go to Sagano over Ichiban.

My wife and I absolutely love hibachi restaurants and we were jazzed to find Ichiban when we bought our house in the neighborhood. It seems that a lot of reviewers are comparing it to Sagano. Since I've never been to Sagano, I'll use Katana in Royal Oak as a basis for comparison. Ichiban's prices are actually really great. My wife and I can get in and out for under $80, which is wonderful. I find the food to be great, especially their clear soup and the ginger dressing. In regard to waiting times, I'm on the fence. On one hand, I don't mind waiting up to 40 minutes before they cook the food because going to a hibachi grill has a lot to do with the experience of it. However, we have waited more than 40 minutes on some occasions and while I understand why they do it, it's frustrating when you're quite hungry and you're simply sitting around. The atmosphere has always been perfect for us. We've been there when we were the only two on the hibachi side, and we've been there when the place was packed. We've had a great time in both instances. The waitstaff is Ichiban's biggest downfall. We've never had one server that was attentive to drink refills or friendly at all. The hibachi chefs are hit or miss. We've had really experienced cooks but also newer cooks that still seemed like they were getting a hang of the tricks. Either way, the food has always been delicious so the experience level of the cooks isn't a deal breaker. Regardless of the waitstaff and the occasional long waiting time, we keep going back to Ichiban because of the atmosphere and the food. It's a great place to go to tide us over in between trips to our absolute favorite hibachi grill at a resort in Mexico.

Pretty good. Got the chicken hibachi for takeout. Pretty much diced chicken I wouldn't made on a George Foreman. Yummy sauce is the best around!!! Prices are a little high. BUUUUT the staff is incredibly willing to work with the customers. Very friendly and accomodating.

Not bad. Hidden away in the Silverton plaza on Hill rd. They have both a hibachi and sushi side. The sushi isn't bad. Much better than Saganos, which has gone down hill lately. Best in the area for sure.

My wife and I were excited to try this closer alternative to Sagano and walked away very disappointed. From beginning to end, we were there for just short of 2 1/2 hours because of poor service. We were seated at a grill and waited for almost 30 minutes before we even got asked what drinks we wanted. Since my wife and I were the only two people seated at the hibachi, we didn't even get to place our order for food for over an hour when more people showed up to fill in the remaining seats. (Sagano only has you wait for about 20 minutes before they start cooking if the table is not full). So, after an hour and a half's time, the chef rolls up with the food to cook to discover that the hibachi is not heating up correctly, and then he walks away while everyone at the table is wondering what is going on. Eventually (almost 20 minutes later) he returned and began cooking. He was great and very entertaining. The only complaint about the food itself is that everything cooked on the hibachi is slathered in teriyaki sauce. Everything. We had to keep asking repeatedly for drink refills and for ice for my wife's iceless iced tea. When all was said and done, we walked out of there paying too much for sub-par service and "meh" food with no apologies or discount given. We would've left way sooner, but was trying to make the best of date night out without the kids. Judging from the other reviews, we apparently got an off night in regards to service, but even the teriyaki-fest would be enough to not go back. Oh well, we tried, but will NOT be going back to Ichiban even though it is much closer to my house than Sagano.

So happy there is finally a good sushi spot in the area. Best in the area, though still not as good as my fav, Sansu in East Lansing. Their sashimi is very fresh. Still no liquor license but they have beer and wine now. I am not a fan of Sagano's sushi, and the female owner was rude every time I was there, usually for take out. Eventually, due to her and the poor sushi I stopped going at all. So, as a sushi lover, I am thrilled to see Ichiban here. :)

I wish I could give negative stars. I haven't been here in a few years but I though I'd give it another try since sagano was closed and I had a sushi craving. After putting in our order it took 25 minutes to get 2 rolls and 2 pieces of nigiri. It's noteworthy to know we were the only table in the entire place. The whole time we waited the "chef" and the server shouted to each other in their native language across the restaurant. Now I'm sorry but it doesn't make it ok just because I don't understand what they were saying, rude is rude no matter what. So after waiting a ridiculous amount of time our food finally came and to say it was disgusting was an understatement. I took one look at the tuna nigiri and knew it wasn't right. The fish was more brown than pink and the edges were browned and crusty. For the sake of trying I ate a piece of the California roll. The rice was stale and crunchy and the avocado was brown. After that I knew I was done but out of curiosity I smelled the tuna and I swear I almost vomited. I flagged the waiter down and he smelled it and told me it was the rice that smelled like rotten fish! Needless to say I will never be back and I would STRONGLY caution anyone against going there.

I wish I hadn't waited so long to write my review of Ichiban, because I can no longer recall the dishes that we ordered.. I'm fairly confident it was some kind of lunch special with an additional roll thrown in? Anyway, this is a review for their sushi, not hibachi.. but yeah. Very underwhelming. I would probably buy rolls at one of those brand new Kroger stores that now feature a sushi kiosk and a chef or two behind the counter, rolling everything before your eyes before I'd pay another visit to Ichiban. The rolls weren't BAD, necessarily, but the ingredients tasted rather stale and the flavor combos just seemed on the bland side (this coming from a girl who runs from Tabasco sauce). Service was alright, no complaints there, but the food -- other than the rolls, the rest of our meal (I'm recalling some kind of fried rice?) was on the salty side. Compared to the sushi I've ordered at Sagano's, Ichiban's cross-town competitor, and even at Kroger, my food here ranged from just average to sub par. I may give it another go if the Groupon reappears as it could have just been an off-day for them, but I'm not expecting much.

Went here for lunch with a group of girl friends. They ordered hibachi and I ordered edamame and miso with the tuna/avocado roll. You would think sushi would be less expensive than hibachi but apparently I thought wrong. Sushi was average at best. Their hibachi chef seemed entertaining though.

Staff is extremely rude. The entire staff family sat there staring at us the entire time, making it extremely awkward. They lied about what was in our food despite our repeated requests to abide by our religious restrictions. The chef and waiter would have entire conversations in another language while we sat there watching. They also refused to change our soups saying they had already brought them out. They would have gotten the order right had they not disappeared for 15 min. I had to make a scene before they agreed to switch the soups. The chef and the good were horrendous. Go to Saganos and save yourself the misery and save your stomach from a stomach ache.

I will never return here. I have been here before with a group, but our chef hardly said a word, making the experience boring and somewhat uncomfortable. A short time after that, I placed a take-out order and asked them to avoid contact with shellfish while preparing my meal. They failed to tell the chef that, so they tried fixing it by separting my food from the shrimp after it was already cooked. After clarifying how an allergy works, they started fresh and got me my meal. But my soup got cold from the wait and my salad warmed up. I gave this place one more chance and returned with a friend for the hibachi grill. The chef was once again really quiet. We could get past that, but our waiter didn't get our water for 10 mins and after we were finished eating, we waited another 15 mins for our bill. The entire time we waited, we could see her sitting at the bar playing on her phone. When we got her attention, she acted like we interrupted her precious phone time. Sorry, but I will stick to Sagano's for this type of food.

I came here with my husband on Saturday evening for our anniversary. We were seated immediately and our drinks were brought quickly. We ordered some appetizers which were brought out in only a few minutes. I had the lobster and shrimp hibachi combination and my husband had the steak and shrimp combination. The hibachi chef came out and was very friendly. He did a few tricks and threw broccoli in our mouths and squirted saki in a squirt bottle in our mouths. It was fairly entertaining and the food was delicious. We were so stuffed when we left! I will definitely come back.

Thought we would try out this place, after being recommended by someone. Drinks were good and that is it. It was a Monday or Tuesday when we went, it was summertime. I think everyone that works there, brought their kids to work and let them just run wild. Food was ok, and actually was more money then Sagano. I will never go here again. The cook was bored. Could not wait to leave, and took forever to get our check to do so.

Went on valentines day and sat on the habachi side. Staff did not inform us of the possibility of a wait for our food, and we had no reason to think there would be considering we sat down immediately with our orders taken quickly. Unfortunately an hour later we were still waiting for our food. Run by all Chinese, so everything you get is more a Chinese way of preparing. We had the Tempura Udon and it was really bland, although the shrimp was large and deep fried well but it took 20 minutes just for spring roll appetizers to appear. Save your money and go to somewhere in Ann Arbor or around Birmingham. Also- I watched one of the sushi chefs, putting on a plastic sanitary glove and then adjusting his long shirt sleeve again and again- cross contaminating everything he touched. This is not the level of hygiene you want especially when handling raw fish.

Great sushi! Was never a big fan of sushi, but now we have found a favorite spot.

Not bad. Hidden away in the Silverton plaza on Hill rd. They have both a hibachi and sushi side. The sushi isn't bad. Much better than Saganos, which has gone down hill lately. Best in the area for sure.
